BWK Construction Co., Inc. served as the General
Contractor for the Belmont Hill and Winsor School Boathouse. The primary
focus of the 5,000 sf adaptation and expansion project was to modernize
and maximize the facility's service to the growing Crew programs for both
Schools. The project involved intensive permit coordination between the
Metropolitan District Commission, the Cambridge Conservation Commission
and other jurisdictional authorities. Additionally, BWK successfully developed
design solutions and procured necessary variance approvals for unique aspects
to mechanical systems. A 1,000 sf addition, set on piles, was added to
the existing structure to allow locker rooms, ADA accessibility and installation
of composting toilet systems. Exterior architectural detail includes diamond-cut
siding and two-tone roofing patterns, milled porch and ramp details and
6-color paint detail. Interior architectural detail includes milled birch
paneling on walls and ceilings throughout and 9x9 mahogany bay doors. The
project was successfully completed over the winter season within a restricted
time period.
